Hi everyone. Today we are going to introduce the first project created by our new Guest Designer – Becky. Before we do, read some she told us about herself.
I am a single mother of two young adult daughters named Maya and Bailee as well as two rescue cats named Theo and Lilac. I have always been a crafter and have been scrapbooking since 1998. I love all kinds of styles and rarely do I stick to just one style on my pages for more than a few layouts before I switch it up. I especially love to create titles and to group embellishments. I really love to use larger formatted photos. Scrapbooking is more than a hobby for me, it is my passion, my therapy, my fun and my art.
Ok, Now it’s time to show my first project created for P13 Paper Products with the Sea La Vie collection. This photo of my mother standing on the cliffs at Acadia National Park in Maine, USA in the summer of 1984 was only recently shared with me from an old friend of my parents. The photo brought up so many feelings for me, and I felt the colors and theme of the Sea La Vie collection were perfect for documenting this photo.
The focal points of my layout are the photo of my mother, the title “Mom you are my anchor” and the letter I have written about my mother which is tucked privately, into the beautiful envelope. My mother suffers from Alzheimer’s and to see this photo and remember her as a younger woman without the struggle of her disease was meaningful to me. I was so happy to find that this collection included envelopes that would be perfect to house my private letter.
While constructing this layout I used many of my favorite pieces of the collection including the envelope, Paper Die Cut Garland, Ephemera Bits & Pieces, Light Chipboard Embellishments, 12×12 and 6×6 papers and so much more. I began by layering papers from the 6×6 paper pad under my photo, placing that photo and my title on a “shelf” made of a strip of paper from the 12×12 paper pad, selecting which garland pieces to use and then adding an assortment of embellishments around the photo in a visual triangle which leads the eye right to the photo of my mom. I also took the time to ink the edges of all of the pieces of the layout except the embellishments. I even inked the edges of the light chipboard pieces. For this I used Walnut Stain Distress Ink from Ranger and a sponge applicator.
I hope you enjoy my layout!
