Hi friends! It’s so good to be back on the P13 blog again! Today I would like to show you this layout I made using the amazing Secret Garden collection. The warm oranges and purples are so beautiful and a perfect match!
I started out with cutting out several hexagons in different sizes using different design papers from the collection. I love creating a background using a shape in different sizes.
I placed them vertically on my white cardstock. I placed smaller ones on top of the larger ones to create a playful look. I backed my photo with the same sandy yellow/orange paper I used for the hexagons. I never measure that or use a paper trimmer, I simply cut by hand and distress the edges to mask any irregularities.
I taped all the hexagons and the photo together, but I didn’t adhere it to my background yet. I love to create my layout first and stick it down entirely later, so I can easily mark the placement with a pencil on my background paper and add mixed media. This time no different. I marked the edges of my hexagon layout and used my bundled sage distress oxide to create a soft green background. It just peeks out underneath the edges of the hexagons.
Now it’s time to stick everything down on the background paper. To finish everything off, I surrounded the photo with the beautiful light chipboard branches and used the “It’s your time to bloom” title.
I created puddles of oxide in some places and used my Tim Holtz alcohol ink blower (but you can also simply blow through a straw) to create those splashes of green on the sides.
I hope you like it! Thanks so much for your visit and I hope to see your creations in our Facebook group!
